The Alameda County Board of Supervisors appointed Cindy Chadwick as the County Librarian after a national recruitment that sought the best candidates to fill this key leadership position. Her appointment is effective January 30, 2017.
Cindy Chadwick has served as Deputy County Librarian at Alameda County Library since February 2011. In this role, she has led operations of the 10 branch County Library system. During her tenure, the Library has introduced a number of innovations, including laptop checkout kiosks in five branches, and a First 5 Alameda County Neighborhood Partnership grant that has brought Spanish language story times to the Union City, Newark, and San Lorenzo communities.
Prior to coming to Alameda County, Cindy worked at the Arapahoe Library District in suburban Denver, Colorado, serving as both the Sheridan City Librarian and Manager of Outreach Services. Prior to entering the library profession, Cindy received a Master’s Degree in Divinity from the University of Chicago and worked as a job counselor at a women’s shelter. Cindy is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Simmons College School of Library and Information Science, writing a dissertation on power and public libraries.
Cindy’s proven leadership and commitment to innovative programming will be an asset to the diverse communities that Alameda County Library serves.
