The Castro Valley Library invites you to a special presentation by San Francisco Chronicle film critic Mick LaSalle on Pre-Code films and a showing of the 1933 classic Baby Face beginning Saturday, November 12 at 1 pm.

Pre-Code films were produced before enforcement of the Motion Picture Production Code in 1934. They are valued for their authentic portrayals of men and women and their relationships. LaSalle, the author of two books on the Pre-Code era Complicated Women and Dangerous Men, will give an introduction to the time period. Then we will watch Baby Face starring Barbara Stanwyk, George Brent, and Theresa Harris.  Baby Face has been called “the most ‘Pre-Code’ of the Pre-Codes” and a blunt depiction of women using sex for power.
