Aluminum silhouette street signs by Michael Mainwaring, Portland, OR, depicting historical Niles area occupations. Located on Niles Blvd. At H, I, and J street. Owned by City of Fremont.

Mr. Mainwaring also works in other metals and sometimes glass. He says he listens to the people involved in a project, tries to understand what they want, and looks at the site for clues.

Ever since second grade Michael Mainwaring has know that he wanted to be an artist. He remembers looking at pictures in a book, wanting to have those pictures, and says of that memory, “I traced the pictures and filled in the colors my own way.” Years later, Michael Mainwaring attended the San Francisco Art Institute, and now Niles has these great street signs.
