The Alameda County Library Advisory Commission advises the County librarian and the Board of Supervisors on library issues. Albany, Castro Valley and Fremont are also represented by advisory boards, committees or commissions who advise on library issues in their respective communities.

Alameda County Library Advisory Commission
The Alameda County Library Advisory Commission (ACLAC) is an advisory commission consisting of 15 members. The commission includes a Council member from each of the 5 cities in the Alameda County Library service area, 6 members at large appointed by either the Alameda County Board of Supervisors or ACLAC members, and 4 members appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Commission members, other than City Council members, are appointed for two year terms; City Council members serve in conjunction with their council terms or as appointed by their respective councils.

Albany Library Board
The Albany Library Board is an advisory board consisting of 7 members appointed by the Albany City Council. Each council member appoints one board member, whose term is concurrent with that of the appointing council member; the Albany Friends of the Library recommend an appointment which is confirmed by the City Council, and one board member is the Council's representative on the Alameda County Library Advisory Commission. The Board was established by the City of Albany in 1994 to advise the City Council on library services in the City of Albany .

Castro Valley Library Advisory Committee
The Castro Valley Library Advisory Committee members are appointed by Supervisor Nate Miley of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors from among citizens and organizations of the Castro Valley area. The Committee was established by the Board of Supervisors in 1990 to identify the need for a new library in Castro Valley, approve the Castro Valley Library building program, and recommend possible sites and a funding mechanism for a new library building.

The Fremont Library Advisory Commission consists of 9 members appointed by the Fremont City Council, each to four-year terms. The Commission was established by the City in 1982 to advise the Council and the County librarian on Library facilities and services in Fremont

The San Lorenzo Library Advisory Committee members are appointed by Supervisor Nate Miley and Alice Lai-Bitker of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors from among citizens and organizations of the San Lorenzo area. The Committee was established to identify the need for a new Library in San Lorenzo and recommend possible sites for a new library building.
