Alameda County Library Online Book Club - Choose from eleven different categories and receive chapters from popular books in your daily e-mail or newsreader. Brought to you by Dear Reader.

Book News - Twenty-one newsletters are available. View them online, sign-up to receive by email or RSS. Newsletters include mysteries, science fiction, teens, children’s, cooking, sports, audio books and many more subject areas. Award-winning book lists for all ages.


National Bestsellers

New York Times Bestseller List - This version provides links to each bestseller in the library's catalog, making it quick and easy to place holds on your favorites.

Oprah's Book List - Oprah's book club titles are listed with the most current choice first. Each title links directly into the catalog so that you can check the status of the book and easily place holds.


Local Bestsellers

Bay Area Bestsellers - The current Bestsellers List from the San Francisco Chronicle with links to their original reviews.

Bookstore Bestsellers - from the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association.


Book Discussion Groups

Reader's Circle - Offers an online directory of face-to-face book groups searchable by zip code. You can also find events at local bookstores and a good selection of review sources.

Reading Group Guides - A comprehensive collection of discussion questions for fiction and nonfiction titles. Offers practical advice for starting a discussion group and choosing books.

Reading Group Center - This site provides over 325 reading group guides for titles published by Vintage and Anchor Books.

The Great Books Foundation - Search for a Great Books discussion group in your area or print a discussion guide for classic titles from Penguin Books.

LibraryThing - LibraryThing is an online service to help people catalog their books easily. LibraryThing also connects people with the same books, comes up with suggestions for what to read next, and so forth. Free and paid versions; No download required.

African American Literature

African American Literature Book Club - This provides reviews of fiction and nonfiction books by and about African Americans. It includes reviews of bestselling and classic titles, author profiles and news of forthcoming publications.


Fiction-L Booklists - An eclectic group of book lists generated by participants in the Fiction-L discussion list. Look for "Edible Fiction," "Seriously Humorous Mysteries," "Women of Spirit," among the eighteen lists available here.

Overbooked - This one is a volunteer project run by librarians with Chesterfield County Library, Virginia. Includes genre fiction, reviews, reading lists, what to read next, and "book talk"...a discussion area for readers and authors. Nicely designed site, easy to use.
