Alameda County Board of Supervisors Appoint Deb Sica as Acting County Librarian

Dr. Cindy Chadwick retires on March 29 after serving 13 years with Alameda County Library.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors announced the unanimous appointment of Deb Sica as the Acting County Librarian on March 26, 2024. Her appointment is effective March 30, 2024. Dr. Cindy Chadwick, Alameda County’s current County Librarian, is retiring on March 29, 2024, after serving 13 years with Alameda County Library.

Sica first joined Alameda County Library in 2013 as a Supervising Librarian at Albany Library and was later promoted to Principal Librarian in 2015. Sica served as Regional Manager for Solano County Library in 2016 and returned to Alameda County as its Deputy County Librarian in 2017. Her experience includes many years of progressively responsible positions in public library systems, including serving as a Co-Director within the Harris County Public Library.

Sica holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Writing and Poetics from Naropa University, and a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree from San Jose State University.

Nationally, Sica has worked with the American Library Association (ALA) in various capacities supporting equity & diversity in public services and in library staff development. She chaired the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Round Table and is part of the ALA Presidential Advisory Committee. Sica currently serves on the Public Library Association’s Board of Directors.
